Julia Claire Prasad lived to perform. As a young girl, she always made us laugh with wacky jokes that she would tell over and over to anyone who would listen.

With middle school on the horizon, she tried her hand at acting, performing in community center productions. In her teens, she turned her focus to music, studying guitar and teaching herself how to play piano and ukulele.

In high school, she went on to participate in chorus and perform in musicals, but it was in the ninth grade that she found her true calling with the New Providence High School (NPHS) marching band, in the color guard.

In the band, she blossomed under the watchful eye of the director, the instructors, and the upper classmen. For three years, she loved every minute of it and eagerly anticipated starting band season one last time for her senior year.

She passed away just before band season began.

The JCP Foundation (JCPF) was established to honor what Julia cherished: the love of performance and the joy of teamwork. To that end, JCPF seeks to establish a college scholarship to benefit NPHS students who share Julia's passions. These include high school students who have participated in the marching band, either as musicians, members of the color guard, or drum majors. Additional funds will go to charities supporting causes that mattered to Julia.
